Paul Fyfe, Director
Paul Fyfe is a former managing director of ING (NZ) Limited, former chairman of the Investment Savings and Insurance Association (ISI), and former member of the Superannuation 2000 taskforce and the IAFP taskforce.
Paul is a director of Superannuation Investments Limited. He has over 40 years’ experience in the investment funds industry.
He was appointed as a director of the trustee in 2006.
The Rt Hon Sir William Birch GNZM, Director
Sir William is a consultant on Public Policy and Government Services, and was previously a senior advisor to Forsyth Barr in New Zealand. He is a director of Superannuation Investments Limited and various other private companies and is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors (Inc).
Sir William served as a member of Parliament for 27 years, including 15 years as a Minister of the Crown. His portfolios included Energy, Labour, State Services, Health and Employment, and he was Treasurer for one year and Minister of Finance for six years in the fourth National Government. He was also the Deputy Mayor of Pukekohe for six years.
Sir William was made a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 1999. Sir William was appointed as a director of the trustee in 2000.
Dr Edward Schuck, Director and licenced independent trustee
Edward Schuck is an investment consultant and professional director with more than 30 years’ experience in New Zealand, the US and the UK.
As principal of Fidato Advisory Limited, Ed provides advice on the governance and management of investments to a wide range of wholesale clients including charitable trusts, iwi, family offices, local authorities and Crown agencies. Prior to establishing Fidato in 2010, he was managing director of Russell Investments in New Zealand.
In addition to being a Licensed Independent Trustee, Ed is an independent director of Superannuation Investments Limited and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Provident Fund.
Ed holds a PhD in portfolio management and is a chartered member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors (Inc). He was appointed as a director of the trustee in 2015.
Samantha Sharif, Director
Samantha is a professional director and investor with 20 years of experience in governance, CEO and leadership roles in NZ, Australia and globally.
She is Deputy Chair of the NZ Shareholders Association, representing NZ’s retail investors, Independent Director of the Motor Trades Association (which has a large investment portfolio), a member of the Audit & Risk Committee of the Dept of Corrections ($3.6 billion in assets and 10,000 staff), amongst other Board roles.
Samantha is also an experienced Independent Trustee of Superannuation Schemes and Mutual Benefit Funds.
Samantha is an experienced commercial lawyer and has post-graduate qualifications in finance, law and governance. She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and an active member of the IOD Wellington Branch Committee.
Samantha was appointed as a director of the trustee company in 2020.
Louise Edwards, Director
Louise is a professional Director and Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of senior management experience across a number of industries in NZ and overseas. In particular, she has held senior executive positions within the NZ financial services industry and is an experienced leader with a wealth of financial management acumen.
She currently holds several board appointments including as a director of National Provident Fund, Co-op Money and Chair of Credit Union Baywide. Her previous roles include Chief Executive of Rata Foundation, Chief Executive of Perpetual Trust and Chief Operating Officer for Assure NZ (subsidiary of AXA).
Louise has always maintained strong community sector links, which includes her work with the Marlborough Kaikoura Trail Trust, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, University of Canterbury Foundation, Good Shepherd NZ, Alzheimers Society and Victim Support.
Louise was appointed as a director of the trustee company in 2020.
